following a double dose of newfound los angeles talent, apron records founder, steven julien (aka funkineven) returns home with the debut release from london-based enigma, molinaro. apron 35 is classic apron records material five slabs of soul-drenched techno anchored by groove and grit from a new name with plenty of experience. molinaro who has honed his production and djing craft for over a decade is one of the capital s best technicians behind the decks. a skill most recently recognised by nts radio, who rewarded him with a regular monthly slot on the airwaves. the first of which shot straight into the nts picks for the week. opener gio cements the tone from the off, drifting in with warm, enveloping pads, quickly joined by beefy drums and percussion in a five-minute sprawl out. jtl is arguably the standout a boogie-influenced roller aimed at prime time dancefloor. ty and -molow showcase the deeper, moodier face of molinaros sound palette before the beatless sofar rounds things out, paying homage to ryuichi sakamotos synth brilliance.

der begriff kult wird inzwischen leider inflationär gebraucht, aber angesichts der wiederveröffentlichung des albums -music for commercials- kommt man nicht drum rum: die ursprünglich 1987 im rahmen der legendären -made to measure--serie bei crammed erschienene platte hat definitiv ein sehr hohes kultpotenzial. nicht umsonst wird die scheibe noch heute gesucht und entsprechend hochpreisig secondhand gehandelt. doch damit dürfte angesichts der - von crammed verantworteten - neuauflage schluss sein, zumal das werk des japanischen produzenten, komponisten und saxofonisten yasuaki shimizu nun auch als lp und cd erscheint. shimizu, der in seiner langen karriere eine gewaltige zahl an alben, soundtracks und kollaborationen (ryuichi sakamoto, van dyke parks, pierre barouh, björk, elvin jones) herausbrachte, vereint auf -music for commercials- eine kollektion an werbe-jingles, die ursprünglich für kunden wie seiko, sharp oder honda entstanden, tatsächlich auch so heißen und im japanischen tv liefen. für die neuauflage wurden die tracks remastered.

under the moniker shed, pawlowitz published three highly ambitious albums in which he defined his work more and more as his own way of musical narration. the final experiment? is definitely the temporary highlight of this evolution. as musical work it does establish shed conclusively as one of the most interesting and substantial electronic music artists of our time. it carries a vibe, that links shed to other boundary breaking artists such as ryuichi nakamoto, brian eno and carsten nicolai. however, shed found a way to develop a highly individual way of communicating electronic music, that is self-sufficient. the last experiment is a mostly homogeneous piece of work, a meditation, where the stylistic confusion seems less important than then musical statement that it represents.

las finest peaking lights give bart davenport a dubby synth makeover with a california sunset flavour. after releasing his physical world album on vinyl and cd with us earlier this year, on cassette with the über everything burger records, and subsequently premiering it on pitchfork, bart davenport officially became the king of cool. surely you can t get much hipper than that? the thing is, you can. because lo and behold, we have a remix of el bartos *girl gotta way* by none other than peaking lights. on 10 inch vinyl. with a stick-on beard tucked in the sleeve. okay, no beard. but the other stuff is true. without losing any of the melancholy of the original, our la friends come up with a balearic-via-west coast affair, replacing some of the nostalgic sounding guitars with equally longing keyboards and gorgeous synth lines, invoking the sounds of ryuichi sakamotos *beauty*. score!

across seven tracks of widescreen ambient music, 45 minutes of visuals shot over four years in multiple countries, seven photographs, and a multi-sensory, multiple channel live performance, willits has created something which might better be thought of as an experience than a simple album. opening features willits latest music since ancient future, his 2012 collaboration with japanese pianist ryuichi sakamoto, and his recent production and mastering work on tychos awake. the vibrant, enveloping sounds we have come to expect from him are on full display. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

kyoka - first solo female on the raster-noton roster works as a musician / composer in berlin and tokyo. she has been releasing music since 2008 and is known for her chaotic, direct approach and heavy-rough sound resulting in a broken pop-beat with experimental yet danceable rhythms. ish means around, like or about and reflects her way to be clear by being vague - brightness wrapped in a blanket of obscurity and abstractness. the ep was produced by longtime friend frank bretschneider, a remix was delivered by atomtm to tune the first track hadue for the dancefloor. ryuichi sakamoto underlines the exceptional talent of kyoka: >panic! it sounds like a toy box turned up side down. how can she make such pretty & chaotic sounds!? i love it!<

coloured vinyl! yoshihiro hanno aka radiq is a highly acclaimed musician and composer from japan, now living and working between tokyo and paris. he did releases on imprints like sub rosa, logistic and progressive form. hanno worked with the new japan philharmonic orchestra as well as arto lindsey or ryuichi sakamoto. besides he got international fame as a composer for different film scores including work with asian movie master hou hsiao-hsien and film director jia zhang-ke. radiq is since some time well aligned with the philpot camp. when he and soulphiction met again last year during the philpot tour in japan, co-operation was affirmed and tracks were committed. two of those funky nuggets are released here, one coming with a brilliant soulphiction remix treatment. >thanks for purchasing a real copy!!<

the new album from danish electronic trio system is a special kind of collaborative effort with piano magician nils frahm. his purpose-built improvisations on synth, organ and piano served as source material for the members of system (thomas knak, anders remmer & jesper skaaning), who merged his warm acoustic tones with their minimalist digitalism and set out to translate their distinctive clicks ÕnÕ cuts electronics into vivid soundscapes. over two years in the making, the resulting nine tracks are as sonically intriguing as they are touching. ranging from the mellow bliss of the title track to echoes of 90Õs and 2000Õs electronica and ambient sequences frequented by mesmerizing movements and sounds. the blending of piano and digital tones and noises into emotive pieces might instantly recall the work of alva noto and ryuichi sakamoto, though system and frahm come to quite different results.
